Project Suggestions for Moshe

Below are topics for research. Students can write a paper or create a multi-media presentation about one or more of these topics.

1. Find out more about the beginning of WWII. What were the political circumstances surrounding this event?
2. Find out more about the anti-Semitic laws that the Nazis enacted, and explain how brutality and humiliation helped them enforce these policies.
3. How is Moshe’s bar mitzvah in the ghetto an act of resistance against the Nazis? Find out more about spiritual resistance during the Holocaust and describe some other examples.
4. Leonek was only a small child when he was taken away from his family. How many children perished in the Holocaust? Why would the Nazis target innocent children?
5. Over the entrance to Auschwitz was the sign, “Arbeit Macht Frei.” What does this mean? Why did the Nazis put this sign at the entrance to Auschwitz?
6. Find out more about the end of the war in 1945.What areas were liberated by the Soviet army? What areas were liberated by the other Allied countries? What kind of assistance did the liberators in these various areas offer the survivors?
7. Find out more about the situation in Germany after the war. Who was in charge? Describe the political and social climate.
